Rebuilding MV switchgear utilizing Tavrida circuit breakers

Sergilec specialize in retrofitting old medium voltage air, oil, SF6 and vacuum switchgear

With the aid of Inventor / SolidWorks drawing program our design team redesign the truck to strict specifications to incorporate the new high spec Tavrida circuit breaker into existing framework. All interlocking is reincorporated.

The circuit breaker is stripped down to the bare truck. All original components that are re-used are sandblasted and powder coated / plated to required spec. The truck is reassembled with a new Tavrida circuit breaker and will go through stringent quality control during the assembly process. The unit is then fully tested and the test results are captured on our database.

Designing a retrofit

Putting together the best retrofit solution doesn’t just happen. Our design team must ensure their designs maintain the original characteristics and integrity of the original panel. Where required the following techniques are used in the design process:

  • Type test: We manufacture a prototype and perform the relevant tests. Only viable if retrofitting large quantities so that the cost is minimised.
  • Approximation & extrapolation: If existing data on the circuit breaker verifies its performance, that data could be extrapolated to the new installation if its important features are not changed.
  • Synthesis: If each component is successful in testing the final result could be deemed acceptable.
  • Calculation: It’s possible to calculate whether the equipment in a retrofit would be able to meet the required performance

Indoor Switchgear Module

The indoor switching module and control switching module has been mounted onto AG16 switchgear circuit breaker carriage by means of retrofit kit. Retrofitted circuit breaker is intended to be used instead of original Bulk oil circuit breaker. Usage of above components allows the switchgear to acquire new characteristics.

With minimum installation expense, it guarantees:

  • Long Mechanical and interrupting life;
  • Fast autoreclosing capability;
  • Easy adaptation to any signalling interface;
  • Low power consumption;
  • High safety level for all operations;

Bulk Oil Circuit Breakers

Bulk oil circuit breakers for GEC type AG16 switchgear are widely used in former distribution boards around the world. Meanwhile many of these are nearing the end of their useful lifetime. Their reliability is decreasing, the maintenance effort is increasing and they become a safety risk.
