Low Voltage Retrofits

Custom manufactured adaptation links for old low voltage switchgear

Low Voltage Retrofits - Option 1

Custom manufactured adaptation links

We have manufactured more than 150 specially designed adaptation links for a wide variety of circuit breaker retrofits configurations, fixed or withdrawable. We cover all the main switchgear manufacturers.

By using these specialised links, a circuit breaker can be replaced on-site by simply unbolting the existing unit and sliding in the new unit fitted with the adaptation links. The new unit is then re-bolted and tested. If no copper work is required on-site, the expected turnaround time is about 2 to 4 hours. If copper work is required, the retrofit would take from 8 to 12 hours.

SPECIFIC REQUEST TO DESIGN RETROFIT LINKS
If a customer does not have the time to do a retrofit with copper equipment, they can request that AMJ Electrical (Pty) Ltd designs links for their installation. This design work would need to be quoted.

Benefits of using adaptation links:

  1. The integrity of the installation is not compromised
  2. The installation is quick and saves on installation charges
  3. Less down time required by the customer saving money on production down time
  4. More units can be installed in a short period
  5. On completion the installation is fully tested creating a footprint for future services

Cutting, bending and punching new coppers on site

There are certain OEM circuit breakers we do not have adaptation links to retrofit the unit. This is because these types of retrofits are not common and retrofit links are expensive to design. It is then necessary to utilizing copper equipment on site. These retrofits take 4 to 5 times longer to complete a retrofit then utilizing adaptation links.
