AMJ Maintenance

Avoid nasty cost shocks and unplanned downtime

Electrical preventive maintenance helps reduce the total cost of ownership, creating more value for your business. It also ensures you meet legislative and regulatory requirements.

Preventive maintenance makes good business sense. It prevents
real-time delays associated with emergencies. With regular, scheduled checks, we can detect any issues with your switchgear early, saving you the time and money it takes to order replacement solutions.

Benefit from a maintenance plan

A maintenance plan can benefit your operation in four ways:

  • Improves efficiency
  • Enhances safety
  • Increases equipment lifespan
  • Lower upgrade and maintenance costs
Maintenance plans

A switchgear maintenance plan to
suit your operation

Switchgear and protection relays are used in many different industries, from healthcare to mining, and manufacturing to processing. Depending on your facility’s specifications, we can incorporate different service and maintenance elements:

Preventative Maintenance

Also known as calendar-based service, this occurs at standard intervals . In many cases, a manufacturer determines the best plan for regular service .

Predictive maintenance

Based on the wear and tear on the equipment, rather than age. Common predictive maintenance services include lubrication and adjustments.

Prescriptive maintenance

Using data captured from online software to prescribe necessary maintenance as required.

Test Equipment

AMJ Electrical Services (Pty) Ltd carry the latest test equipment for all services offered, whether it is a speed trace test, a protection test or a high voltage pressure test that needs to be done we have the tester.

We also utilize OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) brand and model specific test equipment

We have test equipment for the following brand names:

  • Schneider
  • ABB
  • Siemens
  • Mitsubishi

We have a 6000 AMP AC primary injection test set at our head office in New Germany. All our test equipment is calibrated yearly or as per manufacturers requirements

Preventative maintenance: identify and test without the downtime

Infrared thermography

Infrared thermography: Conducted by our certified thermographer while a plant is in operation. Infrared thermography is used to identify electrical or mechanical hot spots on electrical systems.

Partial discharge testing

The best early warning indicator of electrical insulation deterioration. Assesses the status of the electrical insulation of medium voltage and high voltage equipment operating at 3.3kV or higher. Tests can be conducted online, on a continuous basis or prior to maintenance to provide all-around condition monitoring. All testing and recordings are done while the plant is in operation.

technologies and associated equipment

Test and check:

Evaluate functionality and general condition of electrical equipment. Other than standard functional
tests and a basic wipe down, no servicing is included. Test and check service is ideal when:

  • Equipment is brand new: commissioning tests to keep a record for warranty purposes or to create a footprint for the future to monitor wear and tear
  • Equipment is in good condition and does not require cleaning and lubrication. Testing will show any faults
  • The customer has limited downtime to access the equipment. Test and check will pick up any problems.

Site service:

Service equipment to maintain its operating integrity. This service allows for cleaning, lubrication and checking the functionality and general condition of the equipment. Sites services are ideal when:

  • Equipment has never been serviced: the service ensures correct operation and creates a footprint for future services
  • Equipment is old or operates in harsh conditions: greases become hard and linkages start to stick. Contacts require attention

Recondition:

Repair and rebuild equipment from component level to minimum original specification. This service allows for a full strip of the unit to allow for replating where required. The unit is also cleaned and lubricated, and the functionality and general condition of the equipment are also checked. Reconditioning is ideal when:

  • Equipment is old or in poor condition: replacement units and spares are no longer available
  • The customer budget is too low and does not allow for new replacements
Testing: Protection relays, current transformers and battery backups

Protection relays

  • Visual inspection of the relay and all connection points checked for tightness
Control function, such as opening and closing of circuit breaker
  • Protection functions and trip times
  • Logic functions
  • Relay binary and analogue inputs/outputs
  • Insulation resistance testing
  • Primary injection testing
  • Secondary injection testing

Testing current transformers and voltage transformers

Confirm the physical condition and electrical characteristics of current transformers (CT) and ensure they are connected correctly on primary and secondary sides.

Battery backup supply maintenance

Battery performance cannot be taken for granted. The failure of a DC system to perform its intended function will result in service interruption, damage to substation equipment and possible injury or death to personnel. The cost of failures makes the cost of monitoring seem insignificant.

Fully recommend their switchgear maintenance services to any industry.
